Have You or Your Loved Ones Used These Excuses to Avoid Estate Planning?

Although an estate plan is not required by law, having one will truly benefit you and your loved ones during your lifetime and when you pass away. Unfortunately, roughly two-thirds of adults have no estate plan in place. A 2025 Caring.com survey found that only 24 percent of Americans have a will. Online service Trust & Will puts the number slightly higher, at 31 percent (with only 11 percent having a trust). While the exact numbers vary depending on the source, the message is clear: far too many families are unprepared. Your Family Is Not One-Size-Fits-All; Your Estate Plan Shouldn’t Be, Either

Today’s families take many different forms: Some are blended through divorce and remarriage while others are built through long-term partnerships, adoption, or fostering. Note from Susana: Your Future, Your Control –

Let’s Celebrate Estate Planning Awareness Week Together

As Estate Planning Awareness Week reminds us each year, this is the perfect time to reflect on your family’s future—and your role in shaping it. I often hear from clients who put off estate planning because they think they don’t have enough assets, believe their beneficiary forms are enough, or assume that talking with family is a substitute for legal documents. These are all common and understandable misconceptions—but they can leave your loved ones unprotected and your wishes unfulfilled.

Estate planning isn’t about how much you have. It’s about taking control of what matters most: your loved ones, your legacy, and your peace of mind. It ensures that your unique family—however it’s built—is protected in the ways that make sense for you, whether you’re in a blended family, part of an unmarried couple, supporting loved ones with special needs, or juggling the demands of the sandwich generation.

Your family isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your estate plan shouldn’t be either.

If you haven’t created a plan yet—or if yours needs an update—this is your sign to stop waiting. We’re here to help you understand your options and create a personalized plan that gives you clarity and confidence moving forward.

Let’s take the excuses off the table and make smart, meaningful choices for your future. You deserve that peace of mind—and so do the people you love.
